Threshold

Threshold invites a sense of pause: a moment of standing at the boundary between one space and another. The painting centres on the tension between division and passage, the strong vertical split creating a clear sense of edge, while the softer marks within the pale field suggest traces of what lies beyond or beneath the surface. A restrained note of Leskernick Gold pigment acts as a subtle standing presence, bringing a human and ceremonial quality to the work. 

This is an original mixed media painting - hand made earth pigment paint and acrylic on canvas with a trace of copper leaf.

The natural materials for the paint have been gathered from sites in Cornwall, processed by hand and left in a fairly coarse state to add texture.

Paintings containing these natural materials literally have the land that inspired them in the artwork, bringing a real sense of the landscape into the work. They inform the choice of colour palette to ensure an authentic feel and connection to the subject.

The painting is 100cm by 100cm and is supplied unframed with off-white painted deep edges with fixings for wall hanging.
