The Moors

Bodmin Moor is one of the last truly wild landscapes in southern England - a high granite plateau scattered with tors, stone circles, ancient field systems and the ruins of Bronze Age communities.

For me, it's a place of pilgrimage, approached on foot, experienced at slow pace, its moods shifting from luminous clarity to sudden mist in a matter of minutes.

The Moors collection was among my earliest systematic investigations of place-based painting practice, ranging from small studies on paper to major canvases. Recent additions to the collection, including 'Mystery of the Moor' and the new series of moor studies, show the full evolution of this ongoing relationship with the landscape and the integration of local earth pigments and copper leaf.
