Marked Ground

A work shaped by horizon, trace and stillness, Marked Ground speaks of land that has been observed, crossed and quietly marked over time. A sharp dividing line holds the composition in balance, while subtle surface marks and restrained traces of Leskernick Gold pigment suggest the presence of something ancient within the landscape. This painting explores the meeting point between structure and memory.

This is an original mixed media painting - hand made earth pigment paint and acrylic on canvas with a trace of copper leaf.

The natural materials for the paint have been gathered from sites in Cornwall, processed by hand and left in a fairly coarse state to add texture.

Paintings containing these natural materials literally have the land that inspired them in the artwork, bringing a real sense of the landscape into the work. They inform the choice of colour palette to ensure an authentic feel and connection to the subject.

The painting is 100cm by 100cm and is supplied unframed with off-white painted deep edges with fixings for wall hanging.
