Enclosure

In Enclosure, the language of the circle is held within a more austere, divided space. Faint archaeological forms emerge through the pale surface, suggesting a site that is sensed rather than fully seen. Traces of Leskernick Gold pigment introduce a quiet point of presence, giving the painting the feeling of a place set apart - somewhere bounded, held and resonant with memory.

This is an original mixed media painting - hand made earth pigment paint and acrylic on canvas with a trace of copper leaf.

The natural materials for the paint have been gathered from sites in Cornwall, processed by hand and left in a fairly coarse state to add texture.

Paintings containing these natural materials literally have the land that inspired them in the artwork, bringing a real sense of the landscape into the work. They inform the choice of colour palette to ensure an authentic feel and connection to the subject.

The painting is 100cm by 100cm and is supplied unframed with off-white painted deep edges with fixings for wall hanging.
