Sacred Thresholds
Sacred Thresholds is a new collection of paintings shaped by division, trace and the quiet presence of place. Developed through a restrained visual language of dark and light fields, buried circular forms, scored surfaces and small traces of Leskernick Gold pigment, the works explore the meeting point between structure and memory.
Rooted in Natalie’s ongoing engagement with Cornwall’s ancient landscapes, the collection draws on the atmosphere of stone circles, archaeological remains and sites that hold a sense of human presence across time. Rather than describing these places directly, the paintings suggest them through tension, balance and subtle material detail. Earth pigments, textured surfaces and faint embedded marks create a feeling of something revealed slowly, as if the land itself is carrying memory.
Across the collection, sharp dividing lines act as thresholds: edges between dark and light, presence and absence, enclosure and openness. Traces of Leskernick Gold pigment appear as quiet activations within these spaces, echoing standing stones, markers or sacred points within the landscape. Together, the works invite a slower kind of looking and a deeper sense of connection to place.
