Breakers' Edge
'Breakers' Edge' is one of a series of paintings studying the rocks at the end of the breakwater protecting Summerleaze beach. This is an iconic landmark of Bude and a horizon line that is so familiar.
Taking the rock shapes and abstracting to a minimal design offers a clean and simple overall image that is rich in detail and texture on closer inspection.
This is an original mixed media painting - charcoal, hand made local earth pigment paint, collage and acrylic on birch ply.
The natural materials for the paint have been gathered from the Bude area, processed by hand and left in a fairly coarse state to add texture.
Paintings containing these natural materials literally have the land that inspired them in the artwork, bringing a real sense of the landscape into the work. They inform the choice of colour palette to ensure an authentic feel and connection to the subject.
The painting is 60cm by 60cm and is supplied in an off-white float frame with fixings for wall hanging.
Mixed media on birch ply.
Signed on the reverse with certificate of authenticity.
