The Deep Quiet
Part of the artist's acclaimed exhibition series at Royal Cornwall Museum (now Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery).
'The Deep Quiet' explores above and below, the rocks spanning both sides of the surface. Layers of history entombed under the earth and the exposed layers now weathered by the elements, these rocks have long been admired as natural formations and places to be revered.
This is an original mixed media painting incorporating charcoal, hand made natural earth pigment paints and inks, acrylic paint and cyanotype on canvas.
The natural materials for the paint have been gathered from the local area and further afield, processed by hand and left in a fairly coarse state to add texture.
Paintings containing these natural materials literally have the land that inspired them in the artwork, bringing a real sense of the landscape into the work. They inform the choice of colour palette to ensure an authentic feel and connection to the subject.
