Cape Cornwall

The far western tip of Cornwall, where the land narrows to a final headland before the Atlantic, has a quality found nowhere else in England. Cape Cornwall and the Ballowall Barrow area carry the remains of Bronze Age burial chambers, engine houses and chimney stacks - layer upon layer of human endeavour worn down by centuries of salt wind.

This collection responds to that particular concentration of history and wildness. The paintings draw on earth pigments from the western peninsula, where the soils carry a distinctive mineral character shaped by the underlying geology. These are works about endings and endurance, the far edge of land where things persist despite everything. They work powerfully in spaces that call for something with presence and depth.
